I got all three Spider-Man movies for Christmas, so I decided that today, being the first day of classes and all, was a great day to not be productive and do a movie marathon. I’ve seen ‘em all before, of course, but they’re good movies. Well, two of them are anyway, but I won’t go into any rants right now. Any-dang-way, watching the trilogy inspired me to draw the web-head, so here he is:

Yeeeaaah, a bit of a gap in between posts, isn’t it? I’m sorry about that, the rest of finals happened, then Thanksgiving happened, then I kinda lost track of time. Not really a good excuse, is it? Well, hopefully this will kinda make it up to you dudes and dudettes.
Way back in the beginning of summer, my aunt came up to me with a crazy Christmas gift idea: a portrait of my uncle. Not just a normal portrait, though; one that would capture his awesomeness and show it off to the world, done in my personal style. So after months of on and off conspiring and brainstorming, the gift was ready. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be together on Christmas day, so they came down yesterday (under the disguise of simply wanting a fancy Chicago dinner; he didn’t suspect a thing) to visit me here in the city so I could be there when he got it. I’m glad they were able to come down, because the experience of watching him see it for the first time is one that brings a tear of joy to my eye. Also, you know, the free steak dinner. I’m still digesting. Anyway, here is the finished product:

And here it is all framed and stuff:

Isn’t the mat awesome? Matches the background perfectly.
Needless to say, he loved it and I’m pretty impressed with how well it turned out. It’s definitely him, alright.
Anyway, that was fun and part of the reason why I haven’t really shown anything in a while. I hope to get back to my normal schedule soon.
This picture stemmed from my current assignment for my graphic narrative class. The comic I’m working on is a retelling of the classic “tortoise and the hare” story, but with super heroes (it’ll be up later this week). Since it’s pretty lighthearted, I’m using my usual cartoony comic style. But as I was drawing it, I just really got the urge to draw these heroes for real in a more serious way. So that’s where this picture, featuring Kid Flash (Bart Allen) and Superboy Prime, came from. The relationship between these two has always fascinated me. Superboy Prime is an insane murderer who can take on the strongest heroes in the universe (Superman, Superboy, Supergirl, Power Girl, Martian Manhunter, Sodom Yat, etc) at the same time and win, and yet he’s deathly afraid of a kid who can run fast. I dunno, I think it’s pretty funny, although I guess he has a good reason for it.
Anyway, enough nerding out, here’s the picture. I penciled and inked it by hand on an 11×17 piece of bristol board, then shrunk it at a copier and scanned it in to color digitally. Been working on it off and on for the better part of a week now, and I like how it turned out.

Click on it to make it larger.
That’s what she said?
…..whatever, I’m tired. Don’t judge me.
A silly drawing today. I’m not even sure what he’s really supposed to be, but I had fun drawing him.

Lookit him go.
So I’ve been working on this picture off and on for the past week and a half. I knew the look I was going for, I just couldn’t figure out how to make it work. Finally managed to get it close to what I wanted, though I’m still not totally happy with the scythe. Anyway, early last week a friend and I went to Borders to look at art books and stuff, and I ended up getting this really cool Gothic art book. There’s some really amazing artwork in it, and after reading through it I was inspired to do something similar. So, uh, I did.

Here’s my drawing from my most recent Palette & Chisel visit. I like this drawing better than my first, but the head is a bit too tall for my liking. Oh well, something to work on next time.

In other news, I suck at photographing artwork, or at least lighting it.
Another comic book-related post, goodness. Anyway, I love Harley and all of her psychotic ways. I was tempted to draw her being goofy (because, you know, she is), but I ultimately decided to go a bit more subdued route. She’s less bouncy and crazy, and more “You’re gonna die, right now.” I also wanted to draw her wielding her hammer; oh well, maybe next time. I wanted more of a portrait shot here anyway.

What’s this? Updates two days in a row? MADNESS.
I dunno, just got a random flash of inspiration, probably due to having the Batman: Mask of the Phantasm theme on repeat. Maybe.

So yeah, back from Indiana. My summer class begins on Tuesday, so I’m just relaxing today and tomorrow to rest up for the intensive animating work that I’ll have to go through the next five weeks. But hey, that’s animation for you.
Anyway, I checked out that art studio that’s next to me, the Palette & Chisel. It was my first time drawing from life since winter, so I’m a bit rusty. Here’s what I drew:

Definitely made the head too large. I always have that problem when I’m drawing realistic figures, blah. Anyway, thought this would be nice break from my cartoony posts of late.
Don’t ask me where this came from, my mind is a warped and twisted place.
