I got all three Spider-Man movies for Christmas, so I decided that today, being the first day of classes and all, was a great day to not be productive and do a movie marathon. I’ve seen ‘em all before, of course, but they’re good movies. Well, two of them are anyway, but I won’t go into any rants right now. Any-dang-way, watching the trilogy inspired me to draw the web-head, so here he is:

Yeah, I dunno. Hope everyone enjoys the new decade!
Yeeeaaah, a bit of a gap in between posts, isn’t it? I’m sorry about that, the rest of finals happened, then Thanksgiving happened, then I kinda lost track of time. Not really a good excuse, is it? Well, hopefully this will kinda make it up to you dudes and dudettes.
Way back in the beginning of summer, my aunt came up to me with a crazy Christmas gift idea: a portrait of my uncle. Not just a normal portrait, though; one that would capture his awesomeness and show it off to the world, done in my personal style. So after months of on and off conspiring and brainstorming, the gift was ready. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be together on Christmas day, so they came down yesterday (under the disguise of simply wanting a fancy Chicago dinner; he didn’t suspect a thing) to visit me here in the city so I could be there when he got it. I’m glad they were able to come down, because the experience of watching him see it for the first time is one that brings a tear of joy to my eye. Also, you know, the free steak dinner. I’m still digesting. Anyway, here is the finished product:

And here it is all framed and stuff:

Isn’t the mat awesome? Matches the background perfectly.
Needless to say, he loved it and I’m pretty impressed with how well it turned out. It’s definitely him, alright.
Anyway, that was fun and part of the reason why I haven’t really shown anything in a while. I hope to get back to my normal schedule soon.
Okie dokie, here’s my final 8 page comic for my Graphic Narrative course. I’m not gonna lie, I’m really not too crazy about it. The story’s kinda cool, but I seriously rushed this into production, as I’m sure you’ll be able to tell. This whole quarter for me has been a cautionary tale on what happens when you mismanage your time. You’ll be able to see it in my animation, too. Plus, I couldn’t really settle on a comfortable art style for the comic; not being able to decide on a middle ground between cartoony and photorealistic. It’s unfortunate, but totally my fault. In any case, it was great practice in making a full (mini) comic. It…it takes a lot longer than I figured it would. I’ll post pictures of the actual product tomorrow so you can check it out. Anyway, here’s the comic with the art that I’m slightly embarrassed by (and I’m not being a typical “nothing I make is ever good enough” artist, ‘cuz I’ve made some sweet stuff before).
I think page 3 is my favorite. It was completed early enough that I wasn’t rushing, it’s got a nice atmosphere, nice poses, and that cool dancing crowd panel.

Just keeping this site fresh, even if I have to only use words instead of sexy sexy drawings. Finals week begins a week from Wednesday, and I am super not ready for that. Fortunately, my animation final is due on the last possible day (the 24th), so I have two weekends between now and then to get it done. My comic, however, is due a week from today, before finals even begin! I am much further along on that than the animation though, so that’s good news. I guess we’re spending the day of the final reading everyone’s comic. These aren’t just eight sheets of paper; they’re going to be fully assembled comics, with a cover and everything. It’s pretty neat, I’ll have some pictures of the finished product up here in addition to scans of the story.
The other big thing I need to get done is for my intro to Archaeology class (it fulfills a liberal studies credit or something, I dunno). We’ve got a group presentation (for tomorrow), a group paper (next Tuesday), and a final exam (that following Thursday, I think). It’s a lot of work, but whatevs. That’s what I get for totally not being super productive the last eight weeks.
Maybe I’ll post the cover to my comic here soon, just to give y’all something to look at.
Well, I had to do something for the holiday, so here’s the wacky Jack Pumpkinhead! He fits the Halloween theme close enough for me. Enjoy!

So, hey, what’s up? I’ve got less than 3 weeks left until finals time, so I’ve been buckling down and plowing through all of the various projects and papers I’ve got going on. This includes an 8 page comic and a 2 minute animation, which you’ll see in due time. Of course, that means I don’t have a whole lot of time and energy left to devote to any sweet drawings for this site, which is pretty lame. And it’ll be like this for the next month. So I guess y’all can just hang back and eagerly wait to see the awesome stuff I’m working on now.
So, this quarter’s been sorta rough (not hard, just a lot of work), so I don’t have any cool drawings to show right now. Instead, here’s some more crappy awesome sketches I made during class in place of actual notes.

Just think of it as a glimpse into the creative process. Or something.
Here’s a sketch I drew when I should’ve been animating. Whoops. I tend to procrastinate a bit.

And here’s my aforementioned superhero comic. Like I said, it’s a retelling of the classic “The Tortoise and the Hare” fable, but with superheroes. It more-or-less follows the original story beats, though the moral is a bit different. Anyway, enjoy.
